Enphase Energy has revolutionized the renewable energy industry by introducing the world’s first solar microinverter system. Comprised of the Enphase Micro-inverter, the Envoy Communications Gateway (EMU) and the Enlighten website, the Enphase microinverter system gives you more design flexibility, increased energy harvest, and makes expansion of your solar array simpler and easier. It also provides web based per-module performance monitoring, so you can know how your system is operating at any time, wherever you are.
The Microinverter
Improved Performance, Greater Flexibility
The Enphase microinverter shifts conversion of DC power to grid-compliant AC power from a traditional, large, centralized inverter to a compact unit attached directly to each solar panel. This shift makes the entire solar array more productive, reliable, smarter and safer. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) occurs at each solar panel, increasing energy harvest even in variable light conditions. Individual inverters mean you are not limited by string size, marginal designs, co-planarity, and matching modules. You can install your initial solar array based on current needs and budget, expanding your system as these factors change, without having to replace a centralized inverter or find solar panels that match existing panels.
Increased Reliability
Centralized inverters create a single point of failure for a solar array. If the inverter fails, the entire system is disabled. Because Enphase Microinverters convert power independently at each solar panel, if one microinverter fails, the rest of the solar electric system will continue to operate as usual. Also, if a microinverter is damaged or fails, it can be replaced during routine maintenance or when convenient, further reducing maintenance costs.
Enphase Microinverters are compatible with most brands of solar panels used in North American (60 Hz) grid-tie applications.
Microinverter Advantages
- No string design required
- No need for special location of the inverter
- Eliminates need for DC components such as disconnects and combiner boxes
- Enables maximization of roof area
- Modules can be mis-matched in type and ratings
- 15 year limited warranty

Enphase Envoy EMU
The Envoy EMU (Energy Monitoring Unit) is an indoor mounted device that collects and transmits performance information from each solar module to the Enphase Enlighten website (180 panels max per EMU). It includes a display and an internet interface, and is connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable to a router. Individual inverter and overall system data is displayed and saved via Enlighten software through the Enphase website.
Enphase Enlighten Website
The Enlighten website provides unprecedented visibility into the performance of every solar module in your array, allowing you to monitor and manage your solar electric system 24 hours a day. Enlighten service is free for the lifetime of your system.
