Rusco Sediment Filters
Rusco sediment filters offer high-capacity, low-maintenance and low cost sediment filtration. Available for both cold and hot water, Rusco filters are perfect as whole house water filters, for solar hot water systems, in commercial applications and for irrigation systems. All filters can be cleaned and reused, saving you money.
Features:
- Clear cover easily removed for total cleaning.
- No tools required* (*Using tools voids warranty)
- Sediment is visible through cover indicating need for flushing.
- Open ball valve to easily flush sediment.
- Cleanable and reusable polyester and stainless steel filter screens.
- No down time!!
- Manufacturred in the US.
- Made from NSF approved materials.
How They Work
The unique design of Rusco sediment filters uses centrifugal force (a tornado or “spin-down” action) to spin particles out of the main stream of water. The debris then settles to the bottom of the clear cover and is trapped away from the screen allowing for easy discharge of the particles through the flush valve.
SpinDown or Sediment Trapper?
The Sediment Trapper differs from the Spin Down filter in capacity to store filtered particulate matter, requiring less frequent flushing of filtered media. The 1-1/2” and 2” models make it easy to convert a standard SpinDown filter to a Sediment Trapper by simply replacing the filter screens.
Which Size Cartridge Do I Need?
In general, us the coarsest screen possible to filter the material you want removed, which will result in longer runs between cleanings. If you have a substantial amount of sediment in various sizes, you may find that a staged filter system works best. Here at Fire Mountain Solar we have a three-stage Rusco filter system. Stage 1 removes the largest particles, Stage 2 removes the medium particles, and Stage 3 removes the finer, silt-like particles. Staging our system like this has reduced the interval between cleanings, and resulted in less sediment “sneaking” through.
Polyester or Stainless Steel?
Rusco filter cartridges come in both polyester or stainless steel. Use stainless steel filter screens if your water contains iron or other components that stain, that would necessitate frequent removal and cleaning (which wears out the polyester more quickly), or if the particulate you are removing is abrasive enough to shorten the life of the polyester filter cartridges.
What If There Are Chemicals In My Water?
Chemical resistant covers are available for use in chemical applications.
What Can I Do About Algae Growth?
Algae may grow in the presence of light under the clear filter cover. If this happen in your system, the Sun Shield (which fits over the standard clear cover) will reduce or eliminate the problem.
